Refrigerants

Custom NDIR sensors to measure environmental gases.

Refrigerant gas is a type of gas that is used in refrigerators, air conditioners, and other cooling systems to help transfer heat. It is a chemical compound that is designed to absorb and release heat from the air around it, creating a cooling effect.

Refrigerant gas needs to be monitored for a number of reasons.

  • To keep the cooling system working effectively
  • To avoid leaks that can cause environmental damage
  • To protect yourself and others as it can be hazardous to humans and animals.

For these reasons, it is important to regularly monitor the refrigerant gas levels and ensure that the gas is contained properly.

Chlorinated or fluorinated hydrocarbons absorb strongly in the infrared and can be detected using NDIR sensors. Many of these gases have a high global warming potential so it is important to detect leaks and minimise emissions to the environment.
